Thefunction of the digestive system isdigestion and absorption. Digestion is the breakdown of food into small molecules, which are then absorbed into the body. The digestive system is divided into two major parts: The digestive tract and the accessory organs. 
When you consume your food the food goes down the esophagus and then is deposited into your stomach. In your stomach is acid called hydrochloric acid or (HCI), this acid breaks down your food. After your food is broken down, it passes through the small intestine. In the small intestine nutrients is absorbed . After the small intestine, it is passed through the large intestine, in which water is absorbed.
