Ivan Pavlov's discovery of how dogs salivate naturally, due to their food, falls under the branch of Social Science. His discovery of classical conditioning is considered a learning process that occurs through association between environmental stimulus and a naturally occurring one, This is a type of learning that had a major influence in psychology known as behaviorism. This discovery was a beneficial contribution to the field of Social Science because behaviorism is based on the assumption that all learning occurs through interactions with the environment. It also shows how the environment shapes our behavior. In Pavlov's classical conditioning experiment with dogs, the neutral signal was the sound of a tone and the naturally occurring reflex was salivating in response to food. By associating the neutral stimulus with the environmental stimulus, which would be the food, the simple sound of the tone could produce salivation.
