First, I abhor the islanders’ irresponsible act of littering the beach and ocean. The Ministry of Environment 2014 Report estimated a total of 3,000kg of rubbish at the seaside and seabed of the island. Half of this waste consisted of plastics and cloth, thrown by the islanders. Second, I object to the high sales and consumption of sea-turtle eggs on the island and the local market. According to an article published in the New Straits Times dated 15th August 2016, most of the islanders preferred to sell turtle eggs rather than fish as their source of income.  More than 50 percent of the eggs sold in the market was reported to have come from Yang-Yang island. Finally, I protest strongly against the young islanders’ unacceptable behaviour of wasting their time instead of devoting their time and energy to helping their family earn a livelihood. Rather than hanging around and not doing anything, they can for example,  help their family set up and manage a voluntourism based business that will help to improve their standard of living and also protect the island and its inhabitants.
