After the events of WW2, the allies would decide to split Germany in many parts to prevent another catastrophe. They would also split the city, Berlin, in parts as well. However, Stalin would later want to kick out European control and unify Berlin to create a communist Berlin. He would block all roads and rail lines that connect to west Berlin, and not supply West Berlin. He hoped to starve them into submission, but that plan would fail when the US would send food, fuel, and supplies, bringing thousands of food everyday so that they won't turn to the soviets for help. The blockade would end at 1949.

After WWII, Europe would be metaphorically divided, one side being pro-capitalist/pro-democracy while the other was "pro-totalitarian/pro-socialist". This division would be referred to as the Iron Curtain by Winston Churchill. Many Eastern Berliners would flee to West Berlin, embarrassing Stalin due to the large numbers that escaped. in 1961, the Socialist government of East Germany would construct the Berlin Wall using concrete and barbed wires to "keep out so-called western fascists" but was really to keep East Berliners in from escaping to the west. The wall would stand until 1989.

This led to a civil war in South Vietnam, with the US getting involved to prevent the spread of communism. Over the next decade, the US escalated its involvement, sending troops and spending billions of dollars to fight the North Vietnamese communists. Despite the effort to contain communism, South Vietnam eventually fell to communist rule, damaging America's global image as a result of the long and costly war.

In 1962, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev would promise to defend Cuba with Soviet Arms, placing missiles. American Spy planes would notice this and report this new threat to the current president, John F Kennedy. This was a major problem for the US, since Cuba was so close to the US, meaning Cuba/the Soviets could launch missiles to the Capitals of the United States within a span of a few minutes. Kennedy would place a Naval Blockade to prevent any more Soviet shipments of missiles. The international communities would fear that things would go south, and would lead to WWIII. The situation would grow tense, but would be deescalated when they reached an agreement to disarm missiles from both sides. (The US secretly had missiles on turkey, close to Russia) Cuba's leader, Fidel Castro, would become angry that the Soviets were withdrawing/retreating.

President Nixon would be the first to take dramatic steps towards normalizing the relations between the US and the Communist People's Republic of China.
