Interesting Quotes

"IMMEDIATELY, the rasping voice through the speakers had said. LEAVE YOUR BICYLCES WHERE THEY ARE." - page 2

Everyone got a bicycle at the Ceromony of Nine. There was someone flying close above the city and the people through the loud speaker told everyone to leave and dop their bikes, so do they only use bicycles to get from place to place?

"NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED" - page 2

They speak of being "Released" as a punishment and a wonderful celebration. They even say that the new born (Gabriel) might have to be released. I find this quote interesting because soon after Jonas smiled because they said this through the loudspeaker about someone who broke a law.

"The Elders knew that, of course. Andrei was given the Assignment of Engineer and he was delighted." - page 16

There are 50 children for the Ceromony of One, where babies are assigned, so there are only 50 people born per year, but how many people are there in total? How do The Elders keep track of everyone? And how do the people feel about being watched?

I liked how creative this book was, but at first it was a little difficult to understand what was happening at first. I like the way it was written, I didn't read the entire book yet, but you can tell this is a really good book and it deserves the awards it has recieved.
I really like the story. The characters don't seem out of place and they seem like they are used to living the way they do. In some books, they have a good concept, but execute it poorly, but this book does the opposite. Everything in this book goes well together.

Summary

In the beginning of the story we are introduced to the main character Jonas. We learn that every December there is a ceromony for children to reach their next year of age. Jonas was about to become a Twelve and have a career assigned to him during the Ceromony of Twelve and he was "apprehensive" about it. We learn that the worse punishment is to be "Released", but later one of the older people speak of a man who is about to be released and describes it as a wonderful celebration. The rules where Jonas lives are strict. They are assigned spouces, they are assigned children, there are loud speakers everywhere that give demands, they are assigned careers, and are forced to do things throughout the day.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story. I haven't read the entire book, but it has a good story, with good characters. Any person who likes dystopian novels will enjoy this book.
