You get the best efforts from others not by lighting a fire beneath them, but by building a fire within. – Bob Nelson

Leaders have their eyes fixated on the finish line. I always like to think that we all have the inner workings of a horse. The positive leaders, though, have blinders to them. They are also just as unstoppable. With this, the fuel they set ablaze within themselves catches on to the people they lead. Thus, the fire warms those who grow cold. I once had a groupmate who was always seen as someone who is negligent in studies. I honestly know that she just had her fair share of hardships that keeps her from reaching her potential. Instead of nagging her with the work needed to be done, I would instead work side-by-side with her and slowly show her how things are done not as a guide or a leader, but more of as a friend. This helped her be more efficient with the work needed to be done before. I hope she continues to be lead this way by the new people in her life.

Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline. – Jim Collins

Decision making can either make or break certain situations in which there are obstacles that are in need of resolving. One of the most efficient qualities of a leader is when they can be held responsible and accountable and be critical to know the ins-and-outs of a problem all while keeping composure. After all, one of the main purposes of leadership is to oversee the direction of the group it's leading for them to be effective in as simple as implementation. An example to this is when I had to make a conscious decision on what unique show to pull off for my high school’s celebration for Saudi National Day. I decided to showcase Arabian fashion through a mini fashion show. This was the first time that a fashion show was held at our school for a Saudi Day Celebration. The decision therefore made an impact enough to be remarkable for the next batches to follow.
