https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/09/us/black-and-missing-iyw-trnd/index.html
How two Maryland women work to raise awareness about missing black people. The connection I drew with this was the recent things on slavery we've talked about, like Solomon Northup. People were disappearing and no one really cared, and apparently that stuff's happening now. According to the people in article, there's "missing white woman syndrome," which is a syndrome they formed as they don't see black missing people on the news. Over time they found more missing persons and funded and provided tools to find missing persons of color. So for people to want more coverage over the people who've disappeared, specifically people of color, connects to the time when black people were being kidnapped in the North and being brought to the South, not really being looked for.

A current event that connects to something we have learned is the Russian and Ukrainian War. The Russian and Ukrainian War connects to the Mexican American War. These wars connect because they are almost the same. In both wars a large border country invaded their smaller neighbor. Both wars also occurred because people that lived in the smaller country wanted the bigger country to invade. The larger countries in the wars, America and Russia, used the fact that the people wanted them there, in order to justify their invasion.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Ukrainian_War

In their article, "America Is Now the Divided Republic the Framers Feared," Lee Drutman describes the state of our current two-party political system that the "Framers" of our country once feared. Drutman references to the visionaries of historical figures such as Washington and Adams, who believed that a two-party system would be a destructive "political evil." They also mention the federalist separation of powers, which led to different political incentives and avoided the occurrence of a two-party system. However, post-civil rights realignment, the four party system that occurred in the mid-1900's collapsed into two. The current stature of American political parties shows no overlap, and is a drastic difference from the multi-layered parties that coexisted before the major civil rights movements.

He goes into detail how the columbian exchange led to pandemics like Covid-19. All pandemics come from another country and travel from place to place. Overall people weren't the only thing being exchanged. He also talks about how "because disease dramatically reduced population, the European landowners were short of labour. Their solution was to import huge numbers of Africans as slaves. Then the colonial cities in the Americas were built by unfree workers. Slavery was foundational to the Americas. Overall, the concept of race — which didn’t exist at the time of Columbus — was invented partly to justify slavery".

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/10/us-kurdish-independence/543540/

As the Kurdistanian regions in the middle east want independence from other countries, Middle Eastern countries and Kurdistanian leaders are preventing this from occurring, even though the US is promoting the independence of the Kurdistan region. We can correlate this event to the American revolution, as the Americans wanted independence for trade, lower taxes, and liberties influenced from the Enlightenment, but the British royalty, parliament, and certain leaders of the US push back on this in order for the British to mainly gain more power in competition overseas against countries such as France.
