Chinese coolies were Chinese manual labourers who came to Singapore in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries, driven out from their native China by poverty and famine, or drugged, kidnapped or tricked by unscrupulous recruitment agents. They came to Singapore by an arduous sea journey on Chinese junks. On board the junks, they were crammed like cattle for weeks in squalid, inhumane conditions, confined in the holds where the heat was stifling.

Sources E and F are similar. This is because both sources tell me that the living conditions that the Chinese coolies had to live in were poor.

Source E states that "they were crammed like cattle for weeks in squalid, inhumane conditions, confined in the holds where the heat was stifling.

Similarly, Source F shows the Chinese coolies were in bad living conditions.

This is evident in Source F as they were in torn and worn out clothes. Also the boat seems quite dirty and dusty indicating that it has not been cleaned or taken care of. The boat is also very crammed which would make them feel very uncomfortable.

This is evident as source states " They came to Singapore by an arduous sea journey on Chinese junks.
