         <description><![CDATA[<div>This year’s conference theme is Spreading Love &amp; Supporting All Children. <br>- <strong>11:45</strong>: Welcome &amp; Overview - Participants will enter contact information into survey<br>- <strong>12:00</strong>: Think of <strong><em>ONE </em></strong>issue children &amp; families are facing in our state that can use some love.<br>-<strong>12:05</strong>: Go around the room introducing yourself and sharing your issue, and <strong>STAY </strong>with others as a <strong>TEAM </strong>that share your <strong>SAME </strong>issue.<br>-<strong>12:10</strong>: Have TEAMS share their issue on the Padlet and announce out loud, “Children &amp; families in my state can use some more love in…”<br>- <strong>12:15</strong>: Open your QR codes and individually think through the first 2 Questions<br>- <strong>12:20</strong>: Take 5 minutes to read through everyone’s comments.<br>- <strong>12:25</strong>: Talk at your tables about the opportunities to advance community schools &amp; family engagement.<br><strong>- 12:35</strong>: Type your <strong>BEST </strong>opportunities in Q3<br>- <strong>12:40</strong>: Individually read through all the opportunities and put a “Heart” for the <strong><em>ONE</em></strong> you can get behind. <br>- <strong>12:45</strong>: If a big group, divide into tables based on TOP ideas.          <title>Montreal - just getting into family engagement</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- student retention is an issue<br>- non-English not allowed to enrol<br>- people come to them to become bilingual but then move out,&nbsp;<br>- engagement falls on the shoulders of teachers<br>- some still don’t know that community schools exist<br>BC - chronic absenteeism<br>Factors - lack of parent engagement, Indigenous trauma<br>- Principals who move from affluence to Community schools, shocked<br>- food insecurity<br>- need to know what’s avaiiable<br><br>Ont - parents need to feel love, be seen<br>- newcomers have no idea where they fit in<br>- need to be shown what’s happening and who to reach out to<br><br>Policy&nbsp;<br>Montreal - funded by federal gov<br>Toronto - provincially funded subjected to elections<br><br>Good news<br>Montreal - want families to get involved but without funding<br><br>BC - growth<br><br>Toronto - support parents, help to navigate the tdsb,<br>- 24 Community Support Workers support 150 schools, collaborate with Principals and parents/caregivers<br>- focus aligns with multi year strategic plan<br>- Canada does not have the same funding level due to the lack of advocacy<br>- opportunities to connect<br>- NAFSCE has a policy that results in funding<br><br>- in every province, start with community schools, talk to the Director, already have an infrastructure<br>- locate all of the community schools<br>- no policy on community schools<br><br></div>]]></description>
