-->On November 22nd, 1963, the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy was assassinated while on a motorcade around Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. Initial suspicion blamed the Communist Union and Communist Cuba for the assassination, stating it was a Communist plot to remove Kennedy. Kennedy had taken a firm stance against Communism with policies such as Military Assistance Command. He focused heavily on fortifying the United States Military in the event of warfare breaking out. Additionally, the timing of the assassination, especially with regard to the Cuban Missile Crisis and the increasing threat of North Vietnam bolstered fear of Communist influence, which would make the US involvement in Vietnam even more impassioned. Kennedy himself had made moves to get the United States involved in the situation in Vietnam, sending troops to S. V. to help them fight against North Vietnam. The assassination inspired fear in the United States which made people more inclined to join the war and stop the spread of Communism.
-->https://school-eb-com.ezproxy.webb.org/levels/high/article/assassination-of-John-F-Kennedy/604995
-->https://www.jfklibrary.org/learn/about-jfk/jfk-in-history/the-cold-wa

The Gulf of Tonkin was an event during the Vietnam War involving a naval incident that pushed the U.S. to further involve itself in the North Vs. South Vietnam conflict occurred on August 2nd, 1964. Due to the incident’s occurrence and attack on the American Navy ship the Maddox from North Vietnamese torpedos on the Gulf of Tonkin, the U.S.’s further push and escalate into military involvement with the Vietnam War was justified. The Gulf of Tonkin was an unprovoked attack led by Vietnam, which led the US government to escalate US military involvement later.

Sources:
https://www.usni.org/magazines/naval-history-magazine/2008/february/truth-about-tonkin
https://history.state.gov/milestones/1961-1968/gulf-of-tonkin#:~:text=Congress%20supported%20the%20resolution%20with,of%20the%20conflict%20in%20Vietnam.
https://www.britannica.com/video/215760/History-Gulf-Tonkin-incident#:~:text=This%20prompted%20Congress%20to%20pass,getting%20directly%20involved%20in%20Vietnam.

2. The Cuban Missile Crisis is caused by the US's discovery of ballistic missiles installed in Cuba by the Soviet Union. With the dangerous proximity between the US and Cuba, the US felt threatened and tried to remove the missles from Cuba. The conflict almost led to nuclear warfare but thankfully eveything came to an end with the Soviet Union giving in. The missiles were removed under promises made between the US and the Soviet. And this eventually led to the downfall of Soviet Union's leader Khrushchev.

4.) In October 1962, the tension between US and USSR was heightened by the USSR's installation of ballistic missiles in Cuba. Both sides were on the brink of nuclear war. Although Khrushchev and Kennedy eventually reached a compromise, the US could justify its intervention in Vietnam by saying that it is trying to prevent a worldwide nuclear war, since it is the only power strong enough to stand against the Soviet Union in similar situations of tension.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/cuban-missile-crisis
https://www.britannica.com/technology/missile
