"Hassan couldn't read a first-grade textbook but he'd read me plenty" (Hosseini 61).
Interestingly, the author uses a hyperbole in this quote in order to emphasize how the narrator felt towards Hassam at the beginning of this chapter. By belittling Hassam and saying he is unable to read basic picture books, the author justifies the narrator's negative outlook upon Hassam. Because of this fact alone, I see the narrator viewing the himself as though he is of more physical worth than Hassam, leading him to allow what happened in the alley one fatal night to occur without interruption.

" Was he cheering for me? Or did a part of him enjoy watching me fail? That was the ting aobut kit flying: Your mind drifted with the kite."- To me this shows how Amir's passtime of kite flying takes his mind away from everything and allows him to drift in though. the whole book so far he's worried about Baba's feelings toward him and during this moment of such climax he is still worrying about it and he turns this into a metaphor for how kite's impact his thought process. This can be related back to my life in a way that whenever I'm doing something I love to do my mind tends to drift and explore the deeper parts of me I wouldn't have thought of unless I was in that moment and mood.

Paralyzed" (Hosseini 73).

This group of sentences really stands out to me because if Amir had just said something, would his whole life had changed? Hassan would still be a happy child and they would have both gone on normally. If Amir would have said a few words to stand up for him, both of their lives would have been different. But Amir decided to remain silent and run away.

Or I could run. In the end, I ran" (Hosseini 77).

This part of the book impacts me because there is no situation in which Amir can win, and either way someone is going to get hurt. Hassan stands up for Amir whenever he needs him, and when Hassan needs someone the most, Amir runs. These sentences capture the emotion and fear in Amir's mind, and makes the reader feel both empathy and anger at this character who leaves his friend in this horrible situation out of fear.

The rest of my life might have turned out differently if I had."
This group of sentences really stood out to me because it shows the importance of even a few simple words. If Amir had said something in this moment, both his and Hassan's lives could have been very different. He could have rescued Hassan with a sentence or two, but instead he remained silent. This also shows that the decisions you make can have a massive impact on your future. Amir feels immense guilt for not saving Hassan in the alley, all because he couldn't bring himself to say something to help him.

"But with each defeated kite, hope grew in my heart, like snow collecting on a wall, one flake at a time" (Hosseini 64). This sentence of literary merit impacted me by displaying how much impressing Baba means to Amir. This simile, which compares growing hope to a growing mound of snow, shows how fragile Baba's hope in winning is. This quote implies that we can expect a stronger relationships between Baba and Amir if Amir wins the kite-competition. This impacted me because it showed how fragile Amir's current relationship with his father is.

This quote expresses Amir's surprise to the deep comment Hassan previously said. Amir thought that he was supposed to be the smart one, but Hassan's comment shows that Hassan knows Amir better than Amir knows himself. This quote takes place directly after Khalid wins the kite flying competition. It shows how important this is to him and surreal the moment of victory is. It was swimming at the bottom, waiting"" (Hosseini 59.) This sentence had a big impact on me because, when I looked back on it, it was a major foreshadow to the rape of Hassan. He was trying to do something so innocent - find a kite for Amir - and he ended up in a situation that changed his life. The sentence above is like this because it mentioned swimming - again, an innocent action - and how there was a monster at the bottom of the lake, waiting to eat. I understood the use of this quote after fully learning what happened to Hassan.

"That's what I told myself as I turned my back to the alley, to Hassan."

Such a horrible thing is happening to Amir's friend, Hassan. The thing he chooses to do is not to try to help, but to run away, fearing for himself, not others.

"Have you seen Hassan?"
"Your hazara?"
"I nodded"
This had an impact on me because it is saying that Hassan is property and not his friend. This shows that he cares about Hassan but still believes that he is above him. I feel like this is wrong.
