WHAT WAS NEW TO ME ?

·        I discovered about that there was a movement going on in the united states of America, “#bluelivesmatter”. According to my this a movement that emerged during the movement “#BlackLivesMatter” and targeting police brutality

WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?

·        Despite the fact of president Trump being racist, some “black” people still support him. This is because the president Trump considers bisexuality as sin and he is totally against him

HOW HAS THE LESSON CHANGED MY PERSPECTIVE?

·        The lesson has enabled me to see from the perspective of the victims due to the fact as I was not very activated in following the news. I have also learnt that the opposition of President Trump is using the movement against Trump which may cause Trump high causalities.

WAY FORWARD

·        I would like start watching news which are neutral that show all the perspective such as al Jazeera and follow through so that I can keep up in the class.

#bluelivesmatter or Blue Lives Matter is a countermovement in the United States advocating that those who are prosecuted and convicted of killing law enforcement officers should be sentenced under hate crime statutes. It was started in response to Black Lives Matter after the homicides of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in Brooklyn.

#alllivesmatter or All Lives Matter is a slogan that has come to be associated with criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I have learnt that I should not only use the television to watch Netflix and soccer but I should watch news to, so become globally aware 

I shall start watching the news and research more on these movement to be active participant in the class .

·         Readers, writers and texts is study of the non-literary texts and literary works focuses on the nature of language and communication and the nature of literature and its study.

Key intakes: - investigate, learn how text operate and develop critical thinking

·         Time and space are study that focuses on time when the text is written.

Key intakes: - analyze and reflect on the impact of history or current situation on the scenario or event.

·         Intertextuality is the focus is on the consideration of personal and cultural perspectives.

Key intake: - learn how these features of writing from a piece brings out the situation, emotion, etc.

2.      Conceptual understanding

·         Identity: these are the voices of character and the author

·          Culture: The idea of culture is fundamental to the thought of dialect and literature. It discusses how a text relates to the setting of its creation and gathering, and to the prevailing individual principles, beliefs and states of mind in them.

·         Creativity: As related to the act of reading, inventiveness underlines the value of the reader being able to lock in an imaginative encounter with material that produces a wide variety of possible meanings, as well as past and existing interpretations.

·         communication revolves around the address of the relationship that is established between an author and a reader by means of a content.

·         Perspective: A text may offer a variety of viewpoints which may, or may not, reflect the sees of its creator

 

HOW HAS THE LESSON CHANGED MY PERSPECTIVE?

this has changed my perspective on essays that I used to write in igcses which mostly emphasized characterization and styles.  This also opened my eyes that ib is very demanding and I have moved a level up.

The lesson has opened my eyes that I do not have to be on same level as in the previous year. I have level up.

Being from south Asian culture, we are ignorant to news and situation in America but for the sake of IB I have to research more

Research more to increase the intensity of my essay to obtain better results.

Some of the creativity and style used by my friends in their essay 

I learnt how to properly use PEEAL in my essay and what mistakes I had made by referring to Newman’s essay which was displayed. I explored how he used writers craft to bring out his point excellently

I used to skim the articles and was always reluctant to annotate. so, I realized that will not work in IB

now I have to annotate and scan the reference piece for essay to make essay powerful like Newman’s  and Alexandria’s

I have look at each dialogue carefully and look for dramatic techniques and start thinking critically

I also have to relate essay to global issue in my essays that I write in future and study the language used in Othello in midterm break.

Biography of Carol Ann Duffy and Don McCullin

Don McCullin is one of our greatest living photographers. He was a talented in photography he has proved himself a photojournalist without equal, whether documenting the poverty of London’s East End, or the horrors of wars in Africa, Asia or the Middle East.

Dame Carol Ann Duffy British poet whose well-known and well-liked poetry engaged such topics as gender and oppression, expressing them in familiar, conversational language that made her work accessible to a variety of readers. She was also feminist.

Global issues of war and conflict, male domination and poverty etc.

I have learnt that it is important to know about the background of the writer to deeply understand the poem and also relate global issues in their time and present time.

Now that I have read Carols biography, I must find it easy to know the writers view point and the message they are conveying through her poems 

Dolphins and shooting star poem 

Dolphins is a poem where it talks about the cruelty imposed on animals by man but the dolphin also symbolize woman as during that time women were suppressed by men. The dolphin does what ringmaster wants, which can be a metaphor for a women objectification.

Shooting star was a poem where the persona narrates the torture inflicted upon her and other women such as; rape, taken to concentration camp and brutally killed by Nazis due them being Jews and Hitler hated Jews

Before I thought the issue of feminism was not serious and a time pass for Americans but I looked deep in to my society and found out the movement actually makes sense because it is fighting for equality.  

I would like to research more about the feminism movement and why Carol Ann Duffy was a feminist.

War photographer, standing female nude and before you were mine poems

The poem "War Photographer" depicts the experiences of a photographer who returns home to England to develop the hundreds of photos he has taken in an unspecified war zone. The photographer faces the trauma of what he has seen and his bitterness that the people who view his images are unable to empathize fully with the victims of catastrophic violence abroad. 

“Standing Female Nude” is a poem that deals heavily with social injustices, both those of class and of gender.

"Before You Were Mine " could be a poem that investigates the way in which motherhood changes a woman, how she can lose her sense of personality and how children seldom get to know the free, free woman their mother was before they had children

The poem references a number of major historical air strikes and clearly draws imagery from Nick Ut's famous Vietnam War photograph of children fleeing the devastation of a napalm bomb. Showing cruelty of few powerful men as they could not come to an agreement, declare war and wait for the results while people suffer.

I was deeply affected by the poem “standing female nude” as I realized they are double standard for men and women where in society if when a woman has relationship with more men is termed as slut and for men, they are praised.

 

In fact, I have also been quite judging and followed the idea of double standards I would like to abolish it and be equal in judging.

Salome and Introduction to io

The poem clearly carries with it a sense of revenge where the woman is getting back at men who have killed, or rebuffed woman for their intemperate sexuality. The presumption in Duffy’s poem is that Salome has committed the murder herself, while within the biblical story Salome only caused John the Baptists death. Duffy outlines the character of Salome as a figure who mishandle her control and gets away with anything. Duffy’s poem encourages the behavior of Salome which transgresses moral and social code.

Introduction to io the methods and tips to do io

 

I was really hurt by the way Salome treated men and I realized that this poem puts you in the shoe of the woman and view ourselves and I was enlightened on the idea of equality and clear my doubts on feminism spread by the idea of media

I also realized the importance of io and in standard level it accounts 30 % io. So I have to give it 105% effort

 

I have to research on the io read the samples and craft a worthy IO.

While listening to my classmates io, I realized that I have use the setting, historical background in my oral presentation. At SL the IO is worth 30% which means if I perform well in my IO, I have high chances of getting 7. I also have to address specified global issue.

 

War causes an enormous amount of death and disability worldwide. It destroys families, communities and cultures. It forces people to leave their homes or flee to other countries. It violates human rights. It promotes violence as a means to resolve conflicts and it degrades the environment.

More importantly I thought men are major victims of war but if you do aftermath you find that women suffer the cruelty, emotional pain, torture and loss. More to that they have to take care of the remaining family which is not an easy task.

I picked useful tips for my io from my friends and the teacher and now I will edit my IO to make it a better one.

What did I learn?

we will not have lessons on Friday (SL students). This term we are going to heavily focus on the concept of Perspective and Reflection. for  perspective I always have to keep in mind that the readers perspective and writers perspective can vary 

How has lesson changed my perspective?

I have improved a lot but you said I still have to put more effort and score high. I believe you are correct shouldn't settle with 5 points but 6 or 7 

What is the way forward?
I have free lessons on Fridays, I am planning to use it to polish my IOs for the time being. I have to try to understand the writers perspective by researching on their background and I have to reflect on the language used and try to enhance my language

INTRODUCTION TO THE PLAY ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE

What did I learn?

Historical context : Victorian era, First Global industrialization and Realism in literature 

How has lesson changed my perspective?

I thought the play would be boring actually but after reading about the historical context, I became a interested in how external factors such as feminism, industrialization affect the protagonist. 

What is the way forward?
I prepared my self for realism in the play because I like stories with fantasies and i am willing to explore the writers craft.

in the presentation many of my friends used technical terms that enhanced their skills for the IOs

I have learnt during the time of the play , women often forgot their dreams and supported their husbands unwillingly and also obeyed them which is unfair this gives a clear picture how patriarchal the society was and how it has changed. in my perspective everybody should have an equal right

I will read act 1 again and mark out keywords to enhance my IO and avoid making my IO and opinions generic

the analysis opened my eyes about politics in united states of America  that no politician is solely good every politician lies not only TRUMP.

-Cartoons like this are used in newspapers to taunt political leaders and I used to look at it as a joke but it has a lot of hidden meaning in it which I should explore

I should not be ignorant towards cartoons I should analyze them as it is also a form of communication.

I have to practice analyzing the cartoon and also finding the context and perspective of the cartoonist for scoring high grades.
