  • Dual sensory loss or combined vision are other names for deaf-blind 
  • Congenital deafblindness-  when the child is born being deafblind
  • Acquired deafblindness- when the deafblindness comes later in the persons life.
  • Usher Syndrome- half the individual that are deafblind have this.

  • Deaf-blindness is a low incidence disability where a child struggles with vision and hearing lost. 
  • Majority of children who struggle with deaf-blindness also have additional physical, or cognitive problems. 
  • Most children do not have total lost of hearing or vision, the child still might be able to hear or see some.

      Prevalence of Deaf-Blindess 
    • for children under the age of 22 there are 10,000 people with deaf-blindess 
    •  and for adults there are 40,000

  • The child might have slow response times so it is important to give them extra time.
