Now that there on the boat, Josef is worried what the German workers on the boat will do. She got to the gas place and asked the man how much gas she could get for the trumpet and he said 1 tank, but she needed more so she said now how much after she held up the kitten and said that the kitten is good and needs a place to stay and the man said 2 tanks and the deal was done. The mood and tone in the middle of the book for the stories of each character is still kind of negative but not as much as in the beginning of the book. Now if they gave up they probably would not be where they are now. In some parts in the book I would want to read more of one character, but the next page switches to a different character and also it was confusing at some points.
