I decided to make the background a lily pad, so I cut a section of it out. It was scary, but I think it looks nice. Then I split the back into sections (like leaves), and created some vein texture.

All pinwheels have been added. I smoothed the edges and now all I have to do is let it dry and take the final picture.

The pictures don't show it, but it was really difficult trying to get these slabs to stand up on their own.

I was going to do a sculpture of the outside of the shell, but it was too thick so I just hollowed it out. I also had to thin out the inside of the bowl itself as I carved the shell.

I tried to rehydrate the clay with a damp towel overnight. I guess I wasn't supposed to do that. The rapid change in waterness caused the fingers to fall off.
