3. How did you feel learning through Whatapps (Dale's cone of experience)?

At first I was not convict that using only texting as a communication way can somehow made us focus and engage in the activity. I was feeling doubtful. However, to my surprise, I've learn that teachers have to make the activity fun and exciting in order to attract students' interest. Using Whatapps as a platform to teach and learn is one of the most helpful tool. Students can express their thoughts and opinions by writing. This is helpful especially to shy students. I was grateful learning through Whatapps because I can always look back at the activity as a revision.

This is an example of the activity: Narwhal

2. What challenges did you face while learning FCE 3401 online?

To be honest, one of the most challenging parts of learning not only for FCE3401 but the whole semester is the lack of motivation. I tend to procrastinate and doing things last minute. The environment at home can be distracting and stressful. The distraction from loud vehicles in the neighbourhoods often made me lose focus.

Here is an article to help overcome the problem:

1. Describe and elaborate your experience learning FCE3401 online during this COVID19 pandemic.

As we all know, the world is suffering from a pandemic. Thus, this sadly means we need to do everything in our power to help stop the spread of COVID19. This includes closing schools and universities. It is unfortunate that we are unable to complete our assessment face to face. However, we are living in the 21st century where technology like the internet and gadgets can be easily access. For FCE3401, we have used many platform to proceed our class. For examples, Loom, Zoom, Google Drive, Putrablast and Whatapps. There are advantages and disadvantages for each media platform. For example, Loom allows for self-paced learning. Students can take courses from their own devices anytime and anywhere. So, those who don’t have time for some reason can learn and do revision online when they have the time. However, some students suffer from isolation Since students don’t have to be physically present in a classroom, it might be more difficult or nearly impossible for them to get in touch with other learners. I do miss social interaction and discussion about the lessons between my classmates.

Here is article talking about Online Learning:

Topic 5 : Gamification

Gamification in classroom instruction is defined as an approach whereby aninstructor uses mechanics in non-context(Deterding, Khaled,Nacke, & Dixon, 2011), namely in teaching, to create a learning atmosphere (Amir & Ralph, 2014). The thought of using games to teach students has always been a mind blowing approach to me. For many years, I've always thought that playing games was a waste of time and it will have a lot of negative effects. Since that my opinion on gamification has changed. Educational gamification brings a lot of benefits to a student. Students can experience learning in a fun way and still be engaging to the lesson. Moreover, students can have instant feedback provided by the game. This is to facilitates better learner engagement and thereby better recall and retention.

Gamification that I personally tried to help improve and gain my knowledge in languages.
