The Protagiontist of this story is the rifle because it is always in a part of the story. Most other characters in the story die from something that the main character (at that time) does or the main character or the main character dies.

in the story would have to antagonists would have to be the characters that hold the gun. If you think about it, the rifle looks as though that it is a killing machine, and Gary Paulsen makes it sound as though the people that have the gun don't it to it's full potential to be a true killing machine or to successfully kill everyone.

The theme of the story would have to be that guns do not kill people , people kill people. This is true because in the story a character kills a another they say it wasn't my fault,or something to that effect. It just shows that people can't and won't take responsibility to what they do.

The Setting

The setting is actually a very diverse one. it is first when the first Americans fight a good fight to free us from the king, and one those people are very good at it and they are able to kill many redcoats (or lobster coats as they us to call them, we learned that in social studies class a few days earlier). Then it goes to a setting in the 1800s about. It skips there because a lot of people forgot to look in a attic when they bought said house. Then it goes to the 1900s where it is able to claim it's first and last (for a while at least) victim because of someone's carelessness.

The sort of resolution would have to be when the gun accidentally went off and killed Richard. the big thing about that is that he was supposed to be very important because he was going to find a cure for something and have a happy life and all that good stuff. He wasn't able to because his life was ended very abruptly. Anyways, the resolution is when man named Harvey throws the gun off a bridge and then a man finds it to only put it in a gun case.

The climax is where the gun is hanging on a gun rack, it is close to Christmas and the neighboring houses are very good friends, they unknowingly(they didn't know how to set off the gun) set a candle under the gun rack because the gun from my knowledge over the the candle and it had a reaction with the gun powder and the gun was set off, it went through their house and entered the neighboring house, then Richard happened to be in the way be killed a from the lack of knowledge on how to use the gun.
