         <description><![CDATA[<div>Discuss definitions with students.    <br><br></div><div> <br><br></div><div>Definitions</div><div>Venn Diagrams creates a visual set</div><div>Set – any collection of objects</div><div>Universal Set – is the set that contains all elements being considered in a given discussion.  </div><div> </div><div>Symbols used in Venn Diagrams</div><div>U – union two sets being brought together </div><div> - Intersection occurs when items are determined to be in both sets.  Think of the intersection as a covered bridge that connects two towns.  </div><div> </div><div>Review of worksheet Problem Solving:  Collect and Use Data </div><div> </div><div>    (Have students take notes throughout the lesson using pg. 8 to create the     </div><div>               example problem)</div><div> </div><div> Ask the students the question that is on the worksheet.  Create a roster from the student’s information.  Encourage discussion about the topic and the student’s interest.  </div><div> </div><div>                <strong>Likes Skating        Likes biking           Likes both</strong> </div><div> </div><div>Draw each set and record the results from the class.  Explaining each step as the teacher builds the Venn Diagram.   Use the same questions on the worksheet    #7-11 and answer the questions on the board.  </div><div> </div><div>Answer any questions that the students might have about the example problem.</div><div>Then distribute the worksheet to the students to complete pg. 7 independently.  </div><div>Students will also complete pg. 10 problems 1-4</div><div> </div>]]></description>
