I usually make up an easy answer and watch as that person smiles and moves on to the next question. Truth be told, I have no idea what my why is yet. According to Simon Sinek, my why has to be something that makes the intangible tangible. If I had to answer what my why is today, April 19th, my answer would be love. I do what I do because I love the people and places who surround and support me. 

Because humans are relational beings who desire to have connection to things other than themselves, we love often. For as long as I can remember, I have always done things because at the time I loved them dearly. Joining the gospel choir at MCS, running for SGA president, possibly going to a college a distance away from home, ect. are all things I have done or will do because I feel love there.  I love my classmates, I love my school, I love DC/Phily, I love my family and I love myself. In this love, I have found passion and determination to ensure that the people and places around me feel my love for them too. 

My photo essay will include people and places I have felt love. In true Myciah T. Brown fashion, each picture will include a link to a song that reminds me of that person or place.

Camp Pocono Trails is a weight loss summer camp where kids of all ages can go to if they and their parents want them to lose wight. Although I lost weight when I was here, I gained it back and gained more. From this experience I learned that I wasn’t unhappy with what I looked like, but more so with how I felt about my insides. Because I went to CPT, I learned that no matter what size I am, my love for myself should be ever in abundance. CPT motivates me to continue my journey of healthy self preservation and care.

This city is tough to live in, but this is the city of brotherly love and sisterly affection. Philly’s sights and sores make me more motivated to love myself and others because I hope that Philadelphia becomes a better place (without gentrification) because of my existence. It is my goal to continue to allow these people and places to minister to my determination for college and beyond. I am going to keep communicating and loving them as much as possible so they can help love and recharge me.
