This is a sector of folds weaker than the one of the Asturian central massif, and they are smoother the more to the east, since the thrust during the alpine orogeny came from the Eastern zone. That is, this old mountain system has been created from west to east. For this reason, the Galician Cantabrian Mountains and the western Asturias and Leon have rounded morphologies and, as we move to the east, the peaks acquire more Alpine characteristics.
