How do people get through a whole lesson in one block? Kids have lots of good questions and need some background, so sometimes we need to pause for a moment. Even though I try to get right back to task and plow through, I'm consistently a half hour short.

I'm also really struggling with keeping the striving readers on-pace. Could I have them listen/read along the day before to feel more independent? Or should I continue to read aloud to the small group (and anyone else listening) while they're supposed to be reading independently?

Add the student workbook pages to the teacher manual so you can see what they're talking about when you're planning. Even a little image in the margins would be better than trying to reference back and forth.
