Last year I organized all the grade 7 and 8 classes to go and sort food at the food bank. A grade 5 exhibition project was focused on food insecurity and joined one of the field trips. They were able to see first hand the importance of the organization, how they help, and what actually happens when we donate food. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Waste in Our World: Sharing the Planet</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Students at our school took part in a litter pick up group once a week. Students would record the amount of litter that they picked up in the community. We then graphed the amount of litter we picked up each week as a class. We took part in class discussions about the importance of stewardship in our communities and on a global level. We discussed the importance of educating the rest of our school on proper waste management and how education can help prevent a problem (like litter) from magnifying. We created posters to be hung up around the school, informing other classes of proper waste management. We also discussed the great pacific garbage patch and how little actions can have a huge impact in our local and global communities.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Grade ones have reached out to the Lewis Estates Retirement Residence to develop an intergenerational relationship throughout the year.</p><p>Students first visited at Christmas to bring cards, sing carols and learn about different  Christmas traditions.</p><p>During RAK week, students at BDM created Valentine Cards for the seniors to be delivered by the grade 1 students.</p>]]></description>
