They are easy for the body to absorb and use as a quick source of energy. The most common monosaccharides include glucose, which is the primary energy source for cells, fructose, which is found in fruits, and galactose, which is present in dairy products and because they are simple sugars, monosaccharides provide immediate energy but may cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Disaccharides (Double Sugars)</strong></p><p>These are formed when two monosaccharide molecules bond together. These sugars still provide energy but need to be broken down by the body into single sugars before they can be absorbed. Common disaccharides include sucrose (table sugar), lactose (milk sugar), and maltose (found in grains). </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Polysaccharides (Complex Carbohydrates)</strong></p><p>Polysaccharides are made up of long chains of sugar molecules. Because of their complex structure, they take longer to break down, providing a steady and sustained source of energy. Examples of polysaccharides include starch which is found in foods like potatoes and rice, glycogen that is stored in the liver and muscles as a backup energy source, and cellulose, a form of fiber that helps with digestion but isn’t broken down for energy. Complex carbohydrates are often found in whole grains, vegetables, and legumes, making them a healthy and essential part of a balanced diet.</p>]]></description>
