The concept of fairness vs. sameness is a concept I first learned about through my childhood experiences and through my education. As an individual with a learning disability, I learned very quickly that treating everyone the same is not the same as being fair. There were times when I was in high school when I struggled to keep up with the rest of my peers due to not having appropriate accommodations. As I was a slow writer, I would often fail to complete quizzes and exams before the time ran out. In this case, it presented sameness and equality, where I was provided the same test and time limit as my peers, which limited my ability to show the full extent of my knowledge. Fair and equitable assessments were later implemented, including extra time for tests and exams. Implementing needed accommodations provides students with learning disabilities an equal opportunity to succeed.

Now that this assignment is completed, I feel that I have a deeper understanding of fairness vs. sameness not only as a student but as a future educator. I hope to be able to implement what I've learned to promote equity and fairness in the learning environment.
