The infamous Amon Goeth, a evil and crazy Nazi officer, leads the camp. Yanek experiences extreme conditions. He is forced to work long hours in dangerous situations, he faces constant abuse from the camp guards and he lives in fear of death every day. The camp is extremely overcrowded with very little food or medical care. People are often executed or sent to death camps.

When Yanek arrives at the Wieliczka Salt Mine he is forced to work long hours in the dark and dangerous tunnels. The mine was filled with dangerous caverns and rocks. The miners. Had to dig deep into the and carry heavy loads of salt all while being treated terribly by the Nazi guards. The work was exhausting and the conditions were harsh. Many prisoners collapsed from exhaustion, and the risk of accidents in the mine was high. Yanek was constantly at risk of being beaten or even killed by the guards.

His work involves cleaning the camp and working with dangerous equipment. The food is scarce and barely enough to keep him alive. The prisoners face constant threats from the guards who are cruel and deadly. One significant event in the Trzebinia is when Yanek's encounter with the brutality of the camp’s leaders. He sees a prisoner being shot for such a small thing and realizes that at any moment, he could do the same way. The tension intensifies when Yanek's realization of the constant danger and cruelty of the Nazis in the camp.

Yanek was moved to an extermination death camp and was being tortured mentally and physically. He survived the death camp, which most people didn't, if they even made it to this camp before dying. All of the prisoners were being starved and deprived of necessities. Yanek faced several challenges and this made him mentally stronger but sometimes he would get pushed too far and have to start all over again.

Yanek’s transfer to Gross-Rosen wasjust like the other of his journeys. As part of his forced labor duties, he was taken from Buchenwald.He was subjected to the brutal conditions of the transport. He was loaded onto a train with other prisoners and they were transported under horrendous conditions with little food water or much. The overcrowded train cars were filthy and many prisoners died during the journey due to the harsh conditions.When Yanek arrives at Gross-Rosen, his thoughts are shaped by both fear and disbelief. He has already been through several brutal camps and witnessed unimaginable atrocities. By the time he reaches Gross-Rosen, he is exhausted, emotionally drained, and mentally scarred by the trauma he has experienced. He’s lost many family members and friends, and the idea of surviving this next chapter of his nightmare seems almost impossible.

Dachau was notorious for its harsh conditions overcrowding and extreme brutality The camp was used as a model for many other camps and it had a reputation for terrorizing its prisoners with random executions extreme forced labor and torture.
