Listening activies are very crucial for lessons. We have course books that we have to use. I often do listening tasks but sometimes i skip them. Because they neither take my students attention nor appropriate for their levels. So i need to find authentic materials. There are lots of authentic materials. Sometimes i just look at the screen of my pc. Because it is not so easy to pick a movie clip and integrate them to the lesson plan. We had the same problem them today at the training session. I was so happy that i am not the only one. But i also got that this is my weakness. I need to work on it little bit more.

Active listening skills should be in each listening activities. But my students are not active. So instead of complaining i started thinking about the solution to myself. These technics are all new for students. That means until they get accustomed to , i have to do that again and again. And that means work harder to reach the goals ...

Today was great ...

Speaking is one of the productive skills that we have problem. I don't want to mention all the time about problems, I want to write these as weaknesses that I have to improve.
These are lack of vocabulary and being shy.

Today I think I found a solution to the one of my biggest questions. That is " if someone doesn't care about him/herself , I cant do anything for him/her" As teachers we want to be perfect and want to teach each of our students. That is not possible. We should be open to anyone who wants to learn.

Flipgrid is a very nice webtool that i can use in the classroom and as homework.

I want to start with the task today.
As pre-task for weak students I put pictures of famous monuments of the cities around the world and ask them to match with cities .

While activity - T/F activity is suitable for weak students. So I can use that for this paragraph.

Post activity - At this unit there are 3 more text about different cities. Such as Paris, Venice , NewYork. I will choose 3 students and give them Italian, French and American name. So thay are going to talk about their cities as role play.

Reading activity was time consuming for me. Because i do reading out loud activity very much. But from now on before i start planning the activities i divide them three parts like pre - while and post. So that is easy and effective to follow.

For writing activity, process is very usefull to follow. In this seminar i liked the idea of dividing process. Starting the lesson with brainstorming and mind map will be fun. Then preparing 1st draft and making peer correction can be done. 2nd draft and then final feedback can be different and exciting for the class to try.

The other teachers liked the idea of keeping the activities simple and fun.

Grammar is the easiest part for teachers. We prefer implicit method to teach.Because it is student centered.

Our teachers start their lessons with explicit but later they move on implicit way. Because some students need to be informed beforehand.

The most useful vocabulary teaching suggesstion was giving a few words at a time from different topics such as body parts, seasons, food. And I also liked the idea of recalling the words while reading a paragraph.

I am going to ask them to change the vocabulary notebook that they kept last year because it was alphabetic. Today ,i got that that is not efficent to learn new words. That is hard to recall and use when needed.
Instead of that , i will ask them write collocations if it is possible or make snack writing for the words.

Technically assessment is needed after each task or for progress. But the type of assessment we do here is different than the one we are asked. So we can use assessments for performance grade. For crowded classrooms some of the assessments can be hard to apply. But after this seminar i think me and my friends are able to differantiate successfully.

Peer correction is more effective than teacher correction. For crowded classes this can be hard. Students level is important. To be able to make peer correction higher level students are needed in the class. At the begining this can be little bit noisy but when they get used to we can see the results.

Being a part of PDC is chance for teachers to develop themselves. Teaching is not a static process. Process can be a routine easily. So in PDC teachers will have chance to come together.

There are lots of benefits of network. One of these is sharing experinces. Using technology we can expand this network in our local PDC sessions. I think this is one of the aims of this butterfly effect.

In the sessions while conducting task we also think about possible problems and we have ideas about. Hope, we can over come easily.
