He was the first African-american senator. The 15th amendment states that you cannot deny a citizen the right to vote because of their race, color, or previous condition of servitude. 1869- First redeemer government
1870- First black senator elected, 15th amendment ratified.
1871- Forty-second Congress.
1872- Freedom´s bureau abolished, First African-american governor .
1874- Democrats control the forty-third congress.
1875-  Civil rights act of 1875 was enacted by Congress.
1876- Disputed presidential election,  Wade Hampton inaugurated as governor of South Carolina.
1877-  Rutherford B. They had accepted the 13th, 14th,and 15th amendments. Blacks were able to vote witch made Hiram Revels able to be elected as senator.
