Often times as educators, we come across a problem and try to fix it by ourselves. When a problem rises, it is important to lean on your peers and follow the steps above to find a solution to the problem. The real question is how is RTI being implemented in school districts? The biggest concern is if RTi is dividing students based off a tier and if that is fair for those students. NCLB believes that if general education is correctly put into place, no child should need to receive special education services due to the support given in general ed. As educators, we know that some needs are more severe than others and even with all the support in the world, children with those severe needs may need a different type of education. NCLB has a strong opinion on the idea that with having a seperate tier for special education students, we are excluding them by having students be in self-contained classroom and resource rooms during the school day. What would this look like? This would look like classrooms being a co-taught classroom with general education teachers with small group being more structured for students who are needing additional help and problem solving for students who are the most challenging students to teach to develop individualized plans for those students. ]]> 2023-05-31 17:31:24 UTC https://padlet.com/mbalazs2/j71k3alwjnxxugiy/wish/2610802428 mbalazs2 https://padlet.com/mbalazs2/j71k3alwjnxxugiy/wish/2610815509 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) have their opinion on RTI and why it isn't beneficial for students as well. IDEA supports the idea that RTI should be performed from the top down and a more time-sensitive process to identify students with disabilities. IDEA also believes that students should receive more support as they move down with the tier groups. Another thing they wish to put into place is smaller class sizes of special education classrooms and larger general education classrooms which will allow for more special education fundings to be placed in general education classrooms to allow for more accommodations for the students.
