We have completed our space and sky event, which is the first event of our project. The children worked on the space system, the sky and the planets. I created an excavation area and buried the dinosaur eggs there. Then I asked the children to find those eggs. The children found the eggs by digging. Within the scope of the activities of the Gems Approach With Steam project on the formation of the Butterfly, the 3-year-old A Branch students examined the visual showing the stages of the formation of the Butterfly, then watched an educational video on the subject and chatted. The Hungry Caterpillar story was told and the Butterfly drama was performed. It was observed that the children had a lot of fun while doing the Caterpillar experiment. We discussed in our class about animals defences and we found out that nature is “wise” and help the animals to protect themselves. The were excited about the chameleon which can change its skin’s colour to adapt to the environment.

We coloured our own chameleons and then we played in our classroom hide and seek game with some different coloured chameleons.

We observed the sky during daylight and we talked about the stars and the moon. We learned about the universe and about our solar system and especially about our planet earth. We made our oun spacekraft and we used an app to transform into astronauts! We also talked about meteorites and we experimented what they cause when they fall on a planet. Last but not least we had same fun playing games!

We already knew that trees are being easily found in a forest and so we learned interesting information about the animals who live in trees and forests using wikipedia. We printed some animals that live there such as owls, monkeys, snakes, bats, caterpillars ,butterflies, ants, etc we cut them with scissors and we coloured them. At the end we made a big collage placing them carefully on the tree that was already painted on one of our inner walls in our school.

In our school's backyard we found a small broken eggshell and they tried to make assumptions about the type of the birdy that came out of it. We watched an interesting video in class about animals that give birth (mammals) and animals that lay eggs. Our students live in a village and they already knew the lifecycle of some farm animals such as hens, rabbits, sheeps, dogs. We had already learned the lifecycle of a pinguin and the story of the seabird Alkyoni (kingfisher) that lays her eggs during winter and they already knew the lifecycle of swallows that build their home on their balconies during spring. We completed online worksheets about pinguin's lifecycle, animals that give birth and animals that lay eggs.

We read the story of "A very hunger caterpillar" and participated in some activities. We studied the lifecycle of a butterfly and coloured our worksheet.

Then we cracked the code to find a beautiful butterfly in another paper worksheet.

We engaged with some online worksheets (using mobile phone) and working individually. Lastly, we made two different kinds of butterflies, one using coffee filter and the other using folded cart board and toilet paper rolls.

We created a Terrarium for Mother's day in May. Unfortunately during easter holidays our plants were almost dried and we were really disappointed but we didn't give up. So, we decided to use other plants from our parents' gardens (we asked our students' fathers so that it would still be a big surprise for our beloved mothers) which were more resistent to the high temperatures of southern Rhodes island.
