The polymer is a macromolecule composed of one or more monomers that are repeated along a chain.

We can interpret it as if to a thread you collocate many currencies with a hole in the middle, so to say that the currencies represent the monomers and the chain of currencies are the polynomial.

Now that we know what is a polynomial we can concentrate on the gums in specific, which is the central theme of the research. Gums are polymers that can from higly viscous dispersions or gels in solvents or swelling agents.
