What war were the colonies paying for against the french and why; didn’t Europe have an abundance of money due to mercantilism?

The colonies were paying for the french and indian war. The reason Europe didn’t have enough money from mercantilism is because they didn’t start enforcing the rules of trade until after the war. Also the french and indian war was fought for land west of the appalachian mountains, meaning more land in the americas that the colonies could use just as much as Europe could, meaning Europe saw it fair to make the colonies help pay for the war, however the colonies did not like having to pay for a war that they had no say in. (The colonist did ask Europe to come and fight off the french and indians when they had claimed the land west of the appalachian mountains that actually belonged to Europe).

What was the townshend act and why was it needed?

The townshend act was a new set of laws passed by the british government and included things like new taxes on paper, paint, lead, glass, and tea, they also gave british the right to search the colonists’ homes and businesses, along with new courts in the americas, so they could prosecute smugglers without a local jury which is completely unfair to the smuggler. The townshend acts were used because Europe wanted the colonies to, essentially, pay for themselves. This means all the governors, judges, and troops salaries were paid by the taxes from the colonies because they were stationed in the americas.

What does the text on the ship say, and why is that important to the American Revolution?

The text on the boat is the east india company, which means the boat belonged to that company. That company was considered a monopoly(for tea) and had many privileges over other tea companies. This company was important because it was the reason for the tea tax which led to the boston tea party. The company, because it was a monopoly, took away the competing tea companies, which brought down their economic growth. Along with that the only reason this tea tax was made was to keep this company from going bankrupt, not to benefit the colonies in any way.

Why is the massachusetts man dumping tea in the harbor, what was the boston tea party?

The massachusetts man is dumping tea in the harbor to symbolize the boston tea party. The boston tea party is a well known protest that the colonies put together to show europe how mad they were about the tea tax. They dressed up as indians and boarded the ship with the shipments of tea onboard. They threw the tea in the harbor to make Europe mad, in the intent that Europe would know how mad they(the colonist) are about the tea tax.

Why is there only an European ship, and not other ships in the boston harbor?

The reason the only ship in the harbor is an european ship is because Europe had punished massachusetts because of their tea party. Europe had blocked the boston harbor, which was massachusetts main way of transporting and trading goods. This punishment took away a lot of their freedom. However what Europe did not realize is that their idea of punishment was actually one of the first times the colonies unified together for a major cause. This means if you think about it, Europe’s punishment actually helped the colonies and hurt them, in the long run.

What does the man shoveling snow symbolize?

The man shoveling snow represents how the colonist were feeling. If you think about it, when you shovel snow while someone else(England) is sending more snow on the part you already shoveled is a lot of continuous work, that has little to no benefit. This explained how the colonist were feeling because they were shoveling this “snow” to clear a path for themselves, but once they got one area down it piled up with more snow from Europe that needed to be taken care of. This energy to “shovel” the “snow”(pay Europe taxes) took away from the energy to go do other things, like taking care of their families. The colonist had had enough of it and were ready to rebel/ start a revolution.
