In some ways I agree with Annabelle and in some ways I agree with Toby. I think Betty truly does not hat Toby. But it is the best way for her to get out of trouble. She likes to blame everything on him. And when she does this others believe it. But I also do agree that it sort of "...sounds like hate..." but I think Betty is just smart.

This is sort of shocking to me. Annabelle usually does not tell her parents those things or waits a very long time. But she does do it. The dads reaction was exactly what I thought it was. I wonder if they will bring this though or idea to the Constable. I think they will have to think about it for a little but then will eventually tell and we will find out soon.

I wonder if Betty is going to be okay. In her current condition, it doesn't really seem that way. On the other hand, it seems kind of pointless for the author to have this whole rescue scene and then just have Betty die when she is not with Annabelle and in some hospital. If that is the case, that will probably be the climax of the book, discovering that Betty has died and seeing everyone's reaction to that. I believe that the well rescue was for the author to add in a thrilling and suspenseful action sequence, as I was certainly on edge while reading this.

So it turns out that Betty is seemingly okay after all, but I am still kind of suspicious about how the whole thing turned out, as I was kind of expecting a big twist. From what Annabelle's father said about Betty's condition, it seems like she wasn't as hurt as I initially thought she was. I wonder if people, like Aunt Lily, will believe Betty when she says that Toby pushed her into the well. If so, that could create more trouble for Annabelle and Toby, and it just shows how Betty continues to be cruel towards Annabelle and Toby even when she is pretty hurt. I wonder how Annabelle will protect Toby now that all evidence seems to be pointing to him as the culprit.

I'm still not entirely sure whether or not Toby is telling the truth here, but it seems that way. If so, I think that it is interesting how the author finally decided to reveal Toby's backstory. I think it's interesting that Toby hasn't been using his real full name and has been concealing his entire past life from even Annabelle. This could be due to a few things. Firstly, Toby was probably so traumatized and affected by the war and his experiences in it that he now thinks that he can't trust other people, so he doesn't tell people who he is. Another potential reason is that Toby doesn't think about his life before the war and believes that he is a changed man after seeing the things he saw in the war.

I absolutely love this quote, and I believe it's on the back cover of the book (no wonder why they put it there!). Annabelle uses a great comparison to put her view on life into perspective for readers and speaks to the main theme of this book. Firstly, by comparing her life to the notes in a grand, massive symphony, Annabelle can let readers know that she understands that she is a small voice in a large world filled with millions of other voices but wants to sing her part as loudly and beautifully as she can. This perfectly illustrates one of the central themes in this book, that even though you may not be heard sometimes by people who don't value your opinion or statements, you should make people listen to you when you know you're right and stand up for yourself. This is what Annabelle does in this book. She is constantly being ignored, and her opinions are never given much thought as she keeps saying that Toby is innocent and Betty is the real bully, but very few people will listen to her. Instead of being defeated and staying quiet, Annabelle continues to fight for what is right and face injustice by protecting Toby and being an adamant supporter of his. All in all, the metaphor Annabelle uses and its deep significance is just another writing masterpiece the author has included in this book.

So this is why the author had Officer Coleman say that Betty could be someplace where she wouldn't be easily found, like a well, which is a clever piece of foreshadowing. Additionally, when I read about Annabelle hearing a strange noise when going to Toby's smokehouse, I didn't at all connect it to Betty and where she could be. Even though Betty is a cruel and heartless girl, I almost feel sorry for her. Betty could be dead or at the bottom of the well in the dark, alone, and in lots of pain as she faces a prolonged and painful death, which is something horrible to think about and hard to wish on anybody, even Betty. Perhaps rescuing Betty from the well will serve as the climax of this story.

I find it amazing that even though Betty has been so cruel and wicked to Annabelle so far, Annabelle still feels sorry for not doing something sooner about rescuing Betty and feels sorry for Betty herself. This illustrates Annabelle's kindhearted nature and true caring for everyone, even people that have hurt her so much and might not even deserve such worry.

I wonder what will happen to make him stay, as I am pretty sure that Toby won't leave now when the book is not yet over, and several things still have not been resolved. Perhaps Annabelle will convince him to stay and stand up for himself by going along with her plan, or something will happen with Betty.

They shook me to my core and I kind of wished that the author had not used as good imagery because this whole situation was very detailed and was made to put the reader in a state of fear, even though it was a character that many hated from the beginning. Ity also shows that Annabelle still has empathy towards Betty, even though she had hurt her and the people she loved multiple times.

On these pages Annabelle's mother (Sarah) is probably discovering that Annabelle is hiding something from her. I infer this because Annabelle turned to Toby or Jordan when Aunt Lily said "And what about that Toby, Aunt Lily asked. 'Have they found him yet?" Sarah probably believes that Annabelle knows where Toby is or she believes that Jordan is Toby. I also believe this because when Sarah heard Jordan's voice she questioned him, if his name was really Jordan. This is probably because Jordan's voice sounds similar to Toby's voice. Sarah also knows Toby really well, so she knows what his voice sounds like. She might believe that Jordan and Toby are the same people.

Even though he wouldn't be getting any new film or even able to send the film to be developed, I think that it would still be very nice if he bring the camera, to remember the memories of when he was there. Maybe he didn't want to bring the camera because of that. Maybe he doesn't want to remember the things that happened when he was there. I feel like the book will be very different without Toby.
