The Xia Dynasty was established by the legendary Yu the Great, after Shun, the last of the Five Emperors gave the throne to him. They made a calendar system that used both lunar and solar movements.  Bronze embedded with jade also appeared. The first dynasty under the Abdication System became this. Han consisted of two dynasties: the Western Han (206 BC - 24 AD) and the Eastern Han (25 - 220). Merchants had to pay double taxes in the Han Dynasty. The people inspired a new version called Mahayana Buddhism in the northern part of the empire. The most popular cultural achievement of the Han Dynasty was the Records of the Grand Historian written by Sima Qian. I would like to know more about more achievements.
