Such as the statistic that women drive up to 2x as less than the average working male. Increasing prices for all males based on one statistic is discriminatory and unfair as it does not consider each individual case.

Though a whole other essay could be written on the Trans automobile insurance price world, it is worth mentioning in this paper. Companies have a hard time determining what insurance price to give to trans individuals. It is worth understanding that sex is your assigned reproductive organs at birth and gender can be seen as a personality trait that develops over the course of ones life. That being said, if a trans male (female to male) needs to be assigned a insurance price, will it be as high as a males average insurance price or a females and vice versa?

Studies show that the number of male fatalities in crashes are more than double the amount of females every year, but women also drive far less on average than men. Men average about 17,000 miles a year while women only about 10,000 (Insurance Institute For Highway Safety, Federal Highway Administration)

Research found that in some cases, gender rating variables are not upheld and vary drastically. Some companies mark women as a higher risk and make them pay up to $10 more than men while driving less than twice the amount that males do solely based on gender. If the rule isn't even being upheld in some instances, whats the point? (Automobile Insurance Premium Price Discrimination: Sex/Gender)

Studies found that insurance companies experience trouble quoting transgender individuals a fair price. Most accounts claim that they received a middle ground between male averages and female averages. Some companies implemented "gender X" as a policy but still get confused on where to establish prices for an individual. (National Center for Transgender Equality, Delaware Department of Insurance)

Proponents in support of gender being a rating variable use the term "fair discrimination" to justify higher insurance prices for males. However, discrimination of any kind is unconstitutional and in addition, that concept is not applicable as we can find that in some cases, women still pay more for car insurance anyways. Therefore gender should not be a major rating variable in car insurance.

Some companies and groups of people are worried that the removal of gender as a rating variable will result in a overall rise in insurance price for everybody. However, there are many work arounds to this issue if it even does happen, and if insurance companies work together to come up with solutions, we can live in a more equal economy that doesn't base prices off gender.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why gender should be eliminated as a rating variable towards car insurance. The act of punishing a certain group of people solely based on something they cant control is discriminatory and results in unfair disadvantages for that group. Companies also have a hard time quoting certain groups of people like the transgender community and in addition, dont do very well in staying consistent with their prices and basing. To create a healthier and equal economy, companies should begin changing their policies.
