Purpose: This piece was written to express the dangers that betting on sports poses to young people, who are the most vulnerable group. One part of the argument is that the advertising methods used by gambling brands target young people. Also, the main medium of which gambling is accessed is mobile devices. This makes it much easier for people to place bets, simply open an app and play.

Authors: Seal, E., Cardak, B.A., Nicholson, M. et al.

Audience: The target audience could possibly be young people who are of gambling age, but the intended audience could likely just be anyone, since it is a pretty wide ranging issue. There would not be an unintended audience either.

Time/Place: This work was published on February 1, 2022, very recent and the problem is still relatively the same. This piece was written four years after sports betting officially became legal in the United States in 2018 (with some states being exceptions). Betting on sports today is legal in 38 states.

Medium: This work is in the form of an article written online.
