Kids Are Kids-Until They Commit Crimes By Marjie Lundstrom

In the article, "Kids Are Kids-Until They Commit Crimes" by Marjie Lundstrom, the author talks about two kids in legal trouble. The first case, a 12 year old boy named, Lionel Tate, is being tried for beating a 6 year old girl to death. The second case, a 14 year old boy named Nathaniel Brazill, is being charged with first- degree murder for shooting to death his middle school english teacher. The author believes that Juveniles shouldn't be tried as adults. They can't drink alcohol or vote so why should they be tried as adults? "They are not adults." the author says.

Startling Finds On Teenage Brains By Paul Thomson

The article "Startling Finds On Teenage Brains" by Paul Thompson recalls a trial where a 14 year old was tried as an adult. The courts tried the teen as an adult while protesters cried out that he was not a man so he shouldn't be tried as one.The main argument in this article is that the teenage brain is not fully developed so they don't know or comprehend what the outcome of their action will be.The author does not think that teens should be tried as adults because the studies the author brings up show that the frontal lobe of the teenage brain loses a lot of matter and that controls emotions and decisions. Even if one disagrees the evidence does show that the author is correct mostly.

On Punishment and Teen Killers By Jennifer Jenkins

The article "On punishment and Teen Killers" by Jennifer Jenkins has a different view than the other two articles. This article comes first hand by a victim's sister of a teenage murderer. She has a different side. The author talks about a teen who strategically planned out the murder of two people and an unborn child just for fun. The article says that the U.S. isn't the only place that tries their teens as adults and that our punishments are not as extreme as other countries. The point of her article is to argue the other articles with emotions instead of just research. The author is trying to convey the message that the teens are causing more harm than the JLWOP want you to believe.

"Research has shown that locking up minors anywhere is rarely a great way to prevent repeat offenses. But when they have to be incarcerated, they need safety, structure and education." The author says. Kids can't get the growing material they need to go from a juvenile to a well rounded adult from prison.
