In the beginning, the monster was simply a living creature trying to assimilate into the human society but was rejected because of his appearance. He made the effort to learn the language and understand the emotions of humans so that he too could be a part of the real world. He developed feelings and knowledge but was disregarded because people were too frightened by the way he looked. The monster began his life with a warm, open heart but there was no one willing to get to know him.

The monster has been mistreated by humans its entire life. It began with his own creator, Victor Frankenstein, society as a whole, and then he was rejected by the De Lacey family. The monster has been turned away from anyone he tried to befriend and is seeking revenge. He has been unjustly turned away and wants to hurt everyone who has hurt him.

The monster encounters isolation without any choice or say. He is simply isolated by everyone because they believe him to be scary and dangerous. His isolation and lack of interactions is what eventually drives him crazy with anger.
