People didn't want to have shelters being put into their neighborhoods because the homeless rate could increase and it would make their neighborhood look bad with all the trash on the ground with their stuff they have kept with them such as sleeping stuff, shoes, and clothes. Garcetti said, "The shelters are designed to accommodate the number of residents living in a given area, and that was reasonable to assume that those who continue to camp on the sidewalks after the shelters open have recently moved to the area or turned down spots in the shelter." And what they said is a good point then the next paragraph talks about how the shelter would have at least 45 beds, so hopefully that all of the homeless people on the streets could realize they actually have somewhere to stay. -Madison

Most people just don't want the homeless shelter to be made right in town, and they would have no problem. Except, for the homeless to have a way to get to the shelter, or services they need, they need to be close to town. I think that this is very similar to the project in class because the site options and the peoples opinions were basically just alike with the activity we did in class the past week.

I can understand why people are nervous and don't like the idea, however, this is a very organized plan. There will always be someone on site to help keep things under control. I think that the homeless people should be thankful for a spot even if it is a shared building and not a private tiny house and I think that the people in the towns should calm down and let this building be built. Some similarities that I noticed are the people not wanting the shelter to be put in a certain spot because they are worried about cleanliness, money, or safety. They also worried about making sure there was enough housing for everybody. -Hailee McClelland

I feel that the perspectives of the different people were valid, but some lacked empathy. I feel as though the people that are basically telling homeless people to go find somewhere else to live value their property and where they live, and they don't see homeless people as part of that. They see them as drug addicts who chose to live on the streets and while, for some, that may very well be true, it is definitely not the case for all. If they saw them as real people that deserve to be respected, cared for, and forgiven for past mistakes, I believe that their perspectives would change and the homeless problem could at least be seen in a more caring way instead of harshness and hate. I can see that, just as the people of Franklinburg, these people do not want anything to do with homeless people. They don't want to be associated with the homeless, which means they want the problem to be fixed but they don't want to fix the problem. They don't want to see homelessness on the streets but they won't let them in their neighborhood. -Kayla Dillaha
