Young Goodman Brown began as a naive young man who was not guilty of committing any sin, and at that time he was blind to the fact that everyone around him were sinners, even his minister, Deacon Gookin, and Goody Cloyse, his catechism adviser. Then, as he matured, he saw the truth of everyone around him, but he refused to join them in their life of sin and hypocrisy. As a mixture of those colors pink is symbolizing the hazy line between good and evil, and captures the fact that that line can often be blurred. In the story pink is mentioned when referring to the ribbons that Faith, Young Goodman Brown's wife, wore in her hair. Before he went on his journey, Young Goodman Brown believed his wife was pure and innocent. After his journey, Brown begins to question who Faith really is.
