This class has been an adventure, a sojourn and just about everything in between.

Some of the challenging aspects of this class include keeping up with Google Classroom announcements/assignments and not having a textbook. I question how much I have learned about Economics, but on a more positive note, I know that the communication skills from this class will be wonderful.

Mr. O'Connor scared me on the first day of school, and I know that I speak for everyone in saying that. Please, do not worry. I recommend introducing yourself and giving the routes of your last name-- he'll ask sooner or later. The class is laid back, but make sure that you know what is coming up on the quizzes, and do NOT forget to take notes.

Not every had I had such a "heated" dispute with teacher as I did during our Food Court presentation. Having provided ample evidence supporting our claim, Mr. O'Connor did not care for my reasoning. After five minutes of back and fourth words, Mr. O'Connor walked out on our presentation! Ahhh!

I think that this will be a benefit going forward. Again, the communication skills are great.

You have quite a semester ahead of you, colleague. Best of luck, and please, do not give up.

a) Keeping up/actually understanding econ. A lot of teaching yourself.
b) Our community circles are actually pretty helpful because we all get to talk as a class and make changes in future projects/assignments.
c) I loved when we would all share personal things about us, and also the meditation we did, I never do that in any other of my classes so it was a change. Negative would have to be, still not feeling as prepared as I could in economy, but the PBL were helpful and I loved being able to control when and how we did things (mostly).
d) I was able to experience a different kind of teaching, and independence in assignments.

Personally, I think it's impossible to declare a right from wrong in the circumstances of that project, because it all depended on each person's personal philosophies.
d) After Mr. O'Connor's class, I've become better at working in group settings and giving presentations as a group.

a). Mr. O'Connor does not often give clear instructions or assignments, however, this lack of clarity will not affect your final grade as long as you do your best, so I personally was not bothered with this aspect of his teaching style.
b). Mr. O'Conor is a fairly easy teacher. He hardly ever assigns homework, and he often does fun activities during class. This class is very low-stress, and as long as you show up and put in effort during class, you will do fine.
c). Mr. O'Connor called my mom the first week of school, and this is the first time my mom has ever received a call from the school for me in my entire life, including elementary school. I'm pretty much almost a legal adult so I thought it was a bit weird. Not a particularly pleasant or unpleasant experience, just weird. I much prefer teachers to communicate with me rather than involve my parents, I think I am independent and mature enough to do so.
d). I honestly think I'm pretty much the same since being in Mr. O'Connor's class. He is a very interesting human being, although quite honestly I think I'd learn more from him by being his personal friend than by having him as a teacher. He's a dreamer for sure... he likes new ideas, democracy, and community interaction. I have learned to appreciate learning about these things in this class. I believe that regardless of the things I've learned in this class, it will always be a memorable one for sure :)

However, it is very interactive and fun to work and groups and get creative. I have really enjoyed it. He does not give too much homework, and the class is very lively. Community circles are great to talk with students, and it really shows how much Mr. O'connor cares about his students and their struggles. One of the most memorable moments was the debate over joggers and flip flops and the google classroom roast when the poor substitute was here. I believe I am better student from taking this class because it has me helped motivate myself in order to get work done in a timely manner, and to empathize with other students. I think his future students will have lots of fun with this course.
.

Morgan Hildebrand

a) The most challenging aspect of O'Connor's class is adjusting to a different style of teaching because typically his projects and assignments are based on a lot of independence and sometimes he won't answer a question in the most straight forward way so that you can really think about it and find the answer yourself
b) At the same time, what makes his class challenging is also what makes this class really great, because we are so independent a lot of the time our projects typically end up being really interesting since everyone has a different take on the ideas instead of following a set of guidelines perfectly. Also, community circles a re a really great way to get to talk to everyone in the class and discuss with each other how we feel about class, school, and life in general.
c) This one time we had a sub and Mr. O'Connor was basically live chatting with us through comments on Classroom. It was kind of weird.
d) I believe that I am a better student now because O'Connor's class has pushed me to be more confident in my own thoughts and ideas and to come up with more creative ways to solve problems.

The best aspect of the class is Mr. O'Connor himself, because he is always open to discussion of ideas and carries himself with a positive and outgoing personality that gives class a laid back and comfortable atmosphere. A memorable moment in this class was when I said "uh" under my breathe when Mr. O'Connor was talking to us about classroom respect, and I got my whole group in trouble. Mr. O'Connor has made me a better student by forcing me to collaborate with my peers and become self-sufficient with my work.

A) the most challenging part of the class was probably the economic articles... they weren’t terrible but sometimes they took forever and were very annoying. B) the best part of OConnor is that he is very genuine. He’s not some weirdo strict person who’s a die hard economic fan, he is more like a friend leading us in projects. You aren’t gonna learn the fine details to economics, you’ll just learn the generalities of it which I was perfectly fine with. Mr. OConnor also won’t sit at the front of the room and lecture about economics, instead we would learn about it through videos or projects. C) A memorable moment in this class for me was when Mr. OConnor called my parents to tell them how well I did on my presentation and I legit got praised from my entire family including my grandparents; they had never been so proud of me it was funny. I really enjoyed this class and it wasn’t at all the hard economics class I expected. D) I’m better from OConnor’s class because I feel more skilled at finding info myself because OConnor often won’t give it to you. I also feel more confident in giving presentations because you do some hard ones in his class.

But they are more often than not, things that will help you grow as a student and as a person. Before we leave for college, it is imperative that we recognize that teachers aren't always just going to hand over curriculum and answer our every question. College is like the real world, and the real world is a hard place to live in sometimes -- Be patient with Mr. O'Connor, and be prepared to learn more about life and the real world, than you have in any other class you've ever taken.

-Jillian Caple

This class requires you to forget what any other "normal" class has you do. In exchange you learn a new way of thinking and learning. It was hard at first but I think it was good for me to experience.

a) The ambiguity of the class is hard to adapt to (because I don't know what exactly I'm supposed to adapt to). The key is to ask good questions! He will only give so much away, but whatever you can get that will narrow where you're going will help.
b) Mr. O'Connor keeps a very high energy level throughout the class, but not out of control.
c) He took the time to share his experience of living in Albuquerque after having read about my plans to go there during break. You usually think teachers don't take the time to read typical personal responses, let alone reflect on them, so that was a pleasant surprise.
d) I feel like I have the motivation to keep my energy level high, seeing that Mr. O'Connor can as well. While this teaching style runs along the lines of unconventional, it has allowed me to collaborate and delegate with team members better than before.

The one problem I had with Food Court was that we needed a specific answer. I thought the project was making your mission statement and having your project fulfill that statement. But it seems that our project had to fulfill Mr. O'Connors guidelines, which makes me question the point of the mission statements.
