Enchanted has some added twist and turns that do not directly relate to Snow White, Giselle personality resembles Snow White strongly. Since Enchanted is set in Manhattan it really is a completely different type of fairytale than what Disney normally assembles. It feels more believable especially if you are a young kid. I remember when Enchanted came out I loved it because it was not all animated. This helps it reach a large audience.

This is the original version of Snow White created by the Grimm brothers. This original fairytale is carried by the theme of the importance of beauty. Snow Whites step mother, the queen wants to be the fairest in the land. Snow White seems to be unaware of her beauty. In the end of the story the Queen gets killed which presents the underlying theme of how unimportant being pretty is.

Disney Snow White

This big focus in Disney's version of Snow White is how beautiful the prince thinks Snow White is. This is a very common trend throughout Disney fairytales until recently. The most common Disney fairytales like Cinderella, The Little mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, and even as recent as Frozen have this theme of beauty. This is something that Disney has been scrutinized for.

Again, the theme of beauty is present. This seems to be present across the board in all Snow White based stories. In this version the queen wants her daughters tongue for proof instead of her lungs or heart. The queen does not die in this version which is different than the rest of the Snow White stories.

Stereotypes of girls

I decided to throw this article in this Padlet because I believe that one of the Stereotypes of girls is that they have to pe pretty by societies standards. What does this mean exactly? It means that like Snow White, girls have to be skinny, dress in "pretty clothes", and do their hair and make up, to be pretty. As a future educator this is something I want my students to be able to discuss and break through.
