After World War II, many immigrants came to America as a result of the destruction from the war. This caused people to bring their culture over to America, including the game of futbol or soccer. This spread of culture was very common in the United States after WWII, creating new religions and other beliefs. These values and practices were spread throughout the people and became apart of the culture of the United States. Furthermore, Rote Jr. used diction in the quote to emphasize how small soccer was in the United States. Kyle Rote Jr. used words such as "immigrant" and "displaced" to describe soccer. These words have a connotation meaning very little rights or respect, showing that people in the US had little knowledge and respect of soccer when the game first came over seas. Furthermore, this quote explains how the game came to America and why other countries dominate the sport.

The World Cup is a soccer competition that happens every four years in the summer. This competition features the best soccer teams from across the country. The World Cup allows people from across the world to celebrate soccer and it also gives people access to soccer throughout the world. This helps to contribute to the plot of the story, causing soccer to travel to the United States. One of the sections in the book was the development of soccer in the United States, which was influenced by the World Cup. The relationship between soccer in the US and soccer spreading throughout the world, creates a cause-and-effect in the book. Additionally, the World Cup still goes on today and is now one of the biggest sporting events in the world. Millions of people worldwide watch the competition, connecting people together. Today, soccer is one of the biggest sports in the US and now there are several professional leagues.

When soccer came over to America in the 1930's, there was very little funding and support for professional teams and organizations. This limited the quality of play and opportunities for players. However, this changed when investors decided to invest in the North American Soccer League. These investments are the solution to one of the conflicts in the book. Kyle Rote Jr. would not have continued his soccer career if there was not a professional team in the Texas. The North American Soccer League funded by investors allowed soccer players and fans of the game to continue their passion. Also, the league expanded soccer in the United States after many new professional teams were founded. The NASL still exists today and many new soccer leagues have been modeled after it today, such as the MLS (Major League Soccer) and the USL (United Soccer League). The NASL, MLS, and USL have provided a living to elite soccer players and has allowed soccer fans to view professional games in the US.

Soccer strategies have changed numerous times throughout history as different people have come up with ideas. In the early game, people would just dribble and try to score themselves. However, today, soccer is a team sport which causes teams to pass the ball across the field. This quote by Kyle Rote Jr. shows the characterization of soccer styles in other countries. Scotland was one of the first countries that played soccer, causing them to come up with strategies themselves. Rote explains that Scotland changed the style of soccer during the time. However, other teams did not know about this strategy, allowing Queen's Park to be incredibly successful. Scotland was seen as an innovator of soccer at the time, causing one of the biggest changes in the history of the sport forever. Additionally, soccer is still played the same way today, due to the success by Queen's Park. Most of the professionals teams in the world play this way, indicating the impact of this strategy. This impact shows what Scotland soccer is like and what soccer around the world was like at the time.

Right after World War II, soccer was introduced by immigrants when they traveled from their homelands to the United States. Not many wealthy people played soccer, causing the sport to have little support and money. However, several investors supported the professional game in America, not only making a professional league, but also making soccer a professional sport. Rote Jr. would have never played soccer if people did not invest in soccer in America. Once people supported the game, more people became involved in it, spreading the game. Kyle Rote Jr. used a flashback in this quote to reflect back on his life. This flashback provided insight into his life, allowing people to understand the story and the protagonist more clearly. Additionally, this quote shows the beginning of the rise of American soccer. Soccer is America has continually grown since this point in history, causing soccer to be one of the biggest sports in the United States. There are now several professionals leagues in the US including the MLS, USL, and NASL.

Kyle Rote Jr. was a professional soccer player in the 1970's in the NASL or the North American Soccer League. He first began playing soccer in high school and he was a natural athlete. Rote was noticed by many college coaches and attended Oklahoma State University. He was later drafted number one overall by the Dallas Tornado in the 1972 season. Kyle continued his success and became the top scorer in the league the next season. Soon, he became the face of the NASL league after appearing on the cover of the NASL magazine. During this time, many Americans believed that soccer should not be taken seriously and that soccer players are not athletic. However, Rote Jr. proved these people wrong by appearing in a series of competitions with some of the world's best athletes. This event was called "Super Stars," and Rote won this competition three out of the four years he competed in it. Rote played in Dallas for six years and became the all-time leading scorer. He was traded to the Houston Hurricanes in 1979 for 250,000 dollars, creating a record for the largest purchase price for an American soccer player. Finally, he finished his legendary career in Houston in 1980. Rote became the manager and CEO of several clubs until 1984. Later, he became a sports agent and help found Athletic Resource Management, Inc.
