         <description><![CDATA[<div>Solon's laws weren't enough for the people. So, in 546 B.C., a noble named Peisistratus took over as a tyrant. He brought piece and prosperity to Athens. The people thought of him as a good leader because he built new temples and monuments and even held new festivals. After he died, his son took over and the aristocrats were unhappy because they lost power. After they paid a rival to attack Athens, they got power back.</div>]]></description>

Now that the aristocrats were out of the way, Cleisthenes creayed the first form of democracy. That's why he is called the "father of democracy".</div>]]></description>

Assemblies were held so people can hear speeches and debate on any decissions for Athens. However, the assemblies were too large to decide on any laws. The Athenians decided to select city officials to decide what laws should be discussed. Democracy was running more smoothly.</div>]]></description>

It reached its height by an elected leader named Pericles. He led the government from 460 B.C. to 429 B.C. He encouraged the people to participate in government activiyies and even paid them. He also introduced democracy in other parts of Greece.</div>]]></description>
