Empty the test tube into funnels and separate metals by hand using tweezers. After separating the metals do the acid test and magnetic to identify it. After identifying the metal return them to the bin. Start fractional distillation/distillation. while doing distillation we get our powders then put them into the massing boat and label them with sludge # and initials. save all of the distilled liquids into smaller test tubes. turn in all data sheets. for a metal start by testing density then acid/magnetic tests. o find the density find the volume of the graduated cylinder then the volume of the graduated cylinder with the metal in it and subtract. then we have the acid test - drop a few drops of acid onto the metal and observe it to see if it reacts. after the acid test preform the magnetic test to see if the metal is magnetic. then we have to test the liquids which we have to test the density. find the boiling point by taking the temperature at regular intervals and find a time where the temperature stays the same for a few minutes. test the flammability by putting a piece of lit wood into the test tube and see if it reacts. Then we have to test the solubility of sugar. we do this by putting a small amount of sugar into the liquid and see if it dissolves. then identify the liquid(s).

Finish up your fractional distillation with the liquids. Then trash the liquids. Separate powders and start testing the solubility with alcohol and water and its reaction with acid. After testing all of the powders put the unfinished substances into the test rack labeled. powder tests start with solubility in water or alcohol. next is the micro melting point - finding the temperature where the melting begins in the capillary tubes. evaporating dish melting point which tests to see id the powder melts, decomposes, or does nothing. last is the reaction with acid. put some of the powder onto a watch glass and put a few drops of acid onto it to see if it reacts.
