Even though America won the war and established the Land Ordinance of 1785 and the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 many things were not effective. To amend laws all the states had to agree which would cause conflict between the states and also the states had many financial issues. They also had foreign and domestic issues with European nations and the other states. The Articles of Confederation was also not effective because eventually America had to get rid of the AOC and create a new better, form of government.

The AOC gave the people in the U.S. freedom and encouraged the people to become politically involved with their country. The AOC also didn't give the people a strong military, poor taxes and also encouraged a weak central gov't. This all meant that we were to strong of a national gov't and not a congress.

Hanna Henderson- The Articles of Confederation were an ineffective form of government, however it did accomplish some things. The Articles were ineffective because though it united the 13 colonies under one legislative body, the government had no actual power over them. Congress was established in the Articles of Confederation but they had no real power, laws could not be passed without 9 out of the 13 states agreeing to it and even then a law could not be amended without all 13 states agreeing to it. The Articles also had no way of taxing the states either, not only could a tax not be passed because not enough states would agree to it, but each state had its own form of currency. The Articles of Confederation paved the way for a new constitution to be made effectively and for congress to have more power than local governments.

Joey McLaughlin - The Articles of of Confederation attempted to accomplish what our modern-day Constitution has. Although there were many flaws, there were some notable accomplishments. The "AOC" were ineffective as many war debts had not yet been paid, and the AOC provided no type of national currency, so each state would regulate their own money. For this reason, Congress could not tax the colonies, nor pay back debts to the warriors of the Revolution. The states wanted the central government to be weak, so they didn't devolve into a monarchy like Britain had. The only branch of gov't at the time was Congress, giving all the power to the state governments. The last point I have to make is the difficulty of amending a law. Amending laws required all 13 colonies to agree on passing the law, causing problems.

When the Articles of Confederation was made it wasn't a good time people were furious and disagreed with Great Britain government so they didn't want their own government having complete control over everyone. So the Americans had that all in mind when making this which didn't help out. But it did help in bringing the states together and giving people freedom.

Joshua Proctor - I think the AOC was effective form of government. The most important positive aspect of the Articles of Confederation is that they kept the new United States together through the Revolutionary War and the early years of the country. This is no small achievement, even if the Articles were severely flawed. The Articles left the vast majority of power with the states. One negative aspect of the AOC was there wasn’t really an executive branch under that constitution in an effort to avoid having a king. The national government had no ability to impose laws on states. Leadership from Congress had little influence. As time went by, it was clear that this first constitution wouldn’t be able to fully unify the colonies as everyone wanted. The government under the Articles of Confederation could not collect taxes to raise money. The government could not pay its debts from the Revolutionary War, and America lost standing with other nations.

Alongside those weaknesses, it did have some strengths but it wasn't enough to balance out the weaknesses. The government was too weak so they couldn't really enforce anything without 100% agreement. It also lacked control over the citizens. One strength of it however was the usage of a government that doesn't have all of the power because it allowed them to test how their government would run and with this test it later allowed for a revised version correcting it allowing for a government with the just right amount of power to be created - AJ Hodges

There were more negative results than positive which include America being in debt after the war. The central government did not have the ability to tax so most war debts were left unpaid. Some problems with it were that the Congress couldn't establish taxes, so that meant war debts were not getting paid off. The United States were still getting threatened by European states, saying that they were going to take over some of US land. It even led to a rebellion with the farmers because they were angry about the high state taxes and imprisonment for debts that the farmers couldn't even pay off. Although, the Articles of Confederation did have a few positives. It established the first Congress where all 13 colonies had a representative and everyone had a say in what laws were being made and amended. It also helped to establish Public Education. It's long-term impact was really the establishment of the legislative branch, Congress. This is even still used today.~Olivia Cornell 4th

This new form of government brought Americans to independence from Britain after the Revolutionary War. The Land Ordinance impacted the public education system in a positive manner. Northwest Ordinance of 1787 prohibited slavery in the territory. Although these accomplishments reaped a benefit, the Government was not strong enough and had many faults that led to what we know as our constitution today. Because of the debt from the war, the government printed out money which became worthless; Congress had no power to tax. European nations threatened to expand west in America. When the state finally taxed them, the taxes were thought to be too high and citizens rebelled (Shay's Rebellion). The long term impact of the Articles of Confederation was the improvement of government, and independence from Britain.

Padlet: Emran Ahmed-The Articles of Confederation was not an effective form of government. Even though The Articles of Confederation were not effective it still had some positive effects on the thirteen colonies. The Articles of Confederation was not effective because there was not a taxation system, it was not organized as much as it should have, every colony had their own currency (different currency in the colonies), contained a weal Central government, didn't have its own military to defend against rebellious forces, and never made the citizens pay the war debts. These are the reasons why The Articles of Confederation were ineffective (negative). The Articles of Confederation was somewhat effective because it was able to unite the thirteen colonies, allowed the thirteen colonies to have representatives, and it created a congress that was able to sign treaties, petitions, and declare war. These are the reasons why The Articles of Confederation were effective (positive). The Articles of Confederation's long-term impact on the United States was that it opened up space for a new form of government (constitution) to be made and to effectively have a positive influence on the future of the United States of America.

Kimberley Amador 4th Period : The Articles of Confederation was not an effect form of government. There are many pros and cons when it came to this Article. Congress had many limitations when it came to how much power they had. Their power was limited to the point they needed the 13 colonies approval for any kind of change they wanted to make. They also could not tax the states and only ask for money from other colonies. The pros were that it set up a central government which was the Congress. They also were able to win the American Revolution and get a peace treaty from Britain. The long term impact was that there was a new government and the 13 colonies were united.

For example to amend laws they needed all 13 states to decide if if was ok or not. The government couldnt even enforce taxes in need of money. Also due to the lack of money they couldnt get an army together.

Musadiq Sayed - The Articles of Confederation was most definitely not an effective government, but the thing is, it was never meant to be. The whole idea of the AoC was to give powers to the states so that the monarchy that they had just pushed off, would not come back. Thus meaning it was only a loose confederation of states, this was definitely a positive to those who didn't want a strong central government. Though because of its weakness it made the states who sought after so much independence, to be virtually powerless. Britain had abused them at the seas by taking in Americans abroad, forts were still being occupied, and rebellions were flaring up that could not be put down. It was in crisis and today its effect is still present as many of its ideas have entered the constitution, primarily the idea of states rights.
