The inventor wasn't in much of the movie. He was portrayed as the creator/ father of Edward. Unfortunately, he died before giving Edward actual hand instead of scissors.

Through out the movie, Joyce becomes more and more anxious. Finally, she gets Edward alone in her shop and attempts to sleep with him but Edward refuses the offer by leaving.
