This week I work on my expenses table and reworking my income percentages to more accurate

I also revisited my case study work from Week 4 & updated it with the knowledge I've been working on these past couple weeks

I also researched more about commission structures in artist management & how to negotiate better deals with clients

This week I worked on adapting my formative work into my summative.finishing up a lot of my written work

I also spent this week reflecting on my progress & making small adjustments for everything to fit better together

I also revisited my mission statement and refine it

This week I started my research into the various areas of work I want to talk about in this project

I have chosen songwriting, video game composer, marketing (events & artists) & management (tour & artist)

I've spent this week focussing on understanding how each job fits into the music industry & what responsibilities come with them

My mission is to blend creativity with business and hopefully to find a balance between fun and financial stability

I've also started to map out my time and income breakdowns - giving a slight estimate for the money as I haven't researched into salary estimates yet

Video game production could lead to some passive income for me but would require more creative focus

On the other hand marketing feels like a demanding role but with a higher income potential

Management in general is something I feel I could excell at which is why I'd like to spend the most time on it

This week I focused more on understanding the financial sides of these roles

Particularly salary ranges

I found that most of them have high ranges depending on experience

The income for video game composer & songwriters can fluctuate but with the right work can be great passive income

Whereas marketing & management offer a steadier income with more room for progression

This week I also watched the documentary " Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon"

Which while isn't purely focussed on the music industry does go over the story of how Shep Gordon became the manager and accidental business guru behind musicians like Alice Cooper, Teddy Pendergrass

This week I have been working on researching a professional who's ahead of me

I decided to look into the music manager, Tim Byrne, who's been working in the industry for over a decade

I've chosen Tim as I've already interviewed him in 2023 and can contact him if I need any extra information

I used the audio from the interview and got it transcribed using Whisper Transcribe

Through the interview I learned about how Tim balances his time between managing clients, booking shows & handling logistics

We also talked about how he diversified his income streams by taking on multiple clients, participating in commissions & creating strategic partnerships

Theses insights are very valuable for me for my Summative

I can see myself wanting a similar path but adjusting to have avenues of passive income like songwriting while taking on less clients to avoid pilling on stress

This week I reflected on the role of collaboration within the music industry

In relation to my chosen career - Songwriters have to collaborate with artists

It's clear that important skills within all my chosen roles ate communication & teamwork (discuss in Summative)

I am interested in learning how to effectively collaborate with others

Especially with people who have different skills and perspectives

This week I have been trying to spend some time identifying transferable skills for my chosen areas - like organisation & problem solving

These skills are essential for management & marketing roles as they require handling logistics & clear communication under pressure

This week I focussed on exploring innovation in the music business

Specifically looking at how traditional business models have been disrupted (Yellowbrick, 2023)

I explored the development of newer streams like streaming, music sync & NFT based music sales (Anderson, 2021)

One thing I found quite interesting was the populaization of video game composers charger per minute of work (Sweet, 2019)

I love exploring the more innovating approaches to music work like offering exclusive content for fans

For development week while I did take a step back to recoup

Hopefully to avoid burnout

I did spend a small amount of time this week reorganising my work into slides so it's easier to look at the included pictures & diagrams

I also looked into the emerging trends of AI in music production and marketing

As this project develops I've seen the importance on balancing different roles in your portfolio

I went through my pie charts and worked out the income vs the time I want to spend of it

Through this week I've learnt that the key to effective time management is setting boundaries especially between creative work & business tasks

This week I spent my time exploring how I can be sustainable in my music career

Examples I found ranged from eco-friendly event planning to creating a business model that allows me to make a stable income while minimising environmental impact

For example using a digital platform for marketing reduces paper waste

For my own sustainability I plan to expand my portfolio to avoid risks of relying too heavily on one income stream
