However, they were packed into a small portion of land. They faced bad living conditions and faced every consequence of the upperclass' poor spending habits. When the French economy declines, the 3rd Estate heavily feels the effects of this as bread prices rise. Bread, the staple food for the common person, became scarce and hunger arose. With a rise in bread price due to the economy and natural disaster, came a wave of frustration and anger from the 3rd Estate.
