I know illustrations in picture books often add to the story in many ways that would take much longer to explain without pictures; like they say “a picture is worth a thousand words”. I believe picture books can help ignite children's interest in literature. Equally I believe picture books can at some point prevent some children from venturing onto chapter books or longer books that do not contain illustrations, that is the issue I am currently working through with my seven and nine year olds. 

Traditional Literature:
I am not exactly sure what traditional literature refers to, I am guessing what some people would refer to as the classics. I learned a lot of what to look for when purchasing books, like the physical features or whether or not the book is condescending to children. I will remember to use Dr. Perry’s and Dr. Lesesne’s video on evaluating picture books, full of very insightful and useful information, when I become a librarian. Another thing I learned, and had never thought about was there being picture books written for anyone other than children. 

Traditional Literature:
I learned what traditional literature refers to: fables, legends, myths, folk tales. I did not know there were many different types of folk tales, for example, cumulative tales, trickster tales, and noodle head tales. Although I watched Dr. Perry’s and Dr. Lesesne’s video on Picture Books, I feel I still need to learn more on how to review and/or summarize books. I know words like “cute” and “wonderful” should not be used, but I think those reviewing skills will be practiced and honed with time.

Traditional Literature:
I think I need to learn more about different myths from other parts of the world, and cultures in order help diversify my knowledge of myths and legends. Although I am relatively familiar with classic traditional literature, I think I need to learn more about modern forms of traditional literature, for example “Interstellar Cinderella”, as mentioned in our text. I was very intrigued about the history of picture books, especially the different movements and how peoples perceptions were affected by historical events happening at the same time, for example, after the world wars, people were more open to color in text, because we all needed color. I will definitely share those little pieces of information with my students when we discuss the wars. Another thing I learned and will need to share, is the issue Jon Skuse discussed about how e-books are currently mostly just copies of printed books, and the e-book technology is not being used to its full potential. 

Traditional Literature:
