Toddlers using physical domain by running around, dancing, walking around, moving your body around, exercising..

Those are the two most infants and toddlers use I know of because in the daycare I see it most of the time….

Gross motor skills: Children from 3-5 are able to walk freely while infants need support from adults.

Fine motor skills: children from 3-5 can color and cut out papers while infants will need support from teachers.

Language and communication:

Children from 3-5 are able to communicate and tell adults what they want or how they feel.

But infants will cry and fuss when they are hungry, want something or they will show their emotions when they are happy,sad our fustrated.

Social development: 3-5 years old explore using emotions, interactions and body language.

Cognitive domain: Children engage in pretend play, sorting and organizing by shapes and colour, and by biggest to smallest.

Toddlers communicate by cognitive skills or social domains.

Infants are just learning how to develop relationships with ECE’s and their other peers.

Physical:

Infants are learning how to walk, jump, and talk. They also learning to touch, feel and observing.

For 3-5, they can move a lot, more balancing on their own, physical movements are needed more to help them for growth. They get more challenging on outdoors like standing on rocks, trying to walk in one line etc..

Language domain: A lot of infants babbles, mumbles have a hard time to talk, they’re still learning, reading books can help them or talking to them more like normal can help with their speech(in my experience) they can say specific words correctly or still have a hard time learning to say the words.

For 3-5 years old: They talk more, get curious and never ending questions! They’re still learning some new words, like in Inuktitut. They can learn new languages and it helps them understand the meaning as they get older, but a lot of them have a lot of curiosity.

Physical domains: with toddlers they can walk on their own as well as run, they can pick up objects on their own, get dressed on their own, balance. With infants, they crawl, will need help standing (walking), they’ll most likely need help holding onto some objects.

Language domains: With toddlers they can speak in sentences, their names and some can write on paper, and with infants they mostly babble and say at least 1 word clearly.

Physical development for infants/toddlers is when they were newborn babies, they are just learning everything from moving their hands/legs to where they want them to go, rolling over from their back to side to stomach, crawling, grabbing things with their fingers, learning to stand, jump and walk/run.

For children ages 3-5, their physical development foster fine motor skills such as holding a pencil/crayon, learning how to cut with scissors, they are able to walk and run with less accidents than infants/toddlers, they are able to jump even higher and farther, they have more balance. They are learning to be more in control of their physical abilities.

Cognitive development for infants/toddlers is learning to look towards the sound they hear (sound localization). They also learn to use crying for their communication. They learn to crawl by thinking about moving their legs and hands in a specific way to move, same thing goes for walking. Infants/toddlers learn the simple cause and effect of things (like shaking a rattle).

For children ages 3-5, their cognitive development can look like “what will happen to this if I do that? Or this?” going into deeper ways of cause and effect. They can learn to build things with blocks; they can learn that colors can mix and the outcome will be a different color. They also build memory, grow their imagination, and separate their imagination to reality.

Personal examples of these developments:

Physical, infants/toddlers: an infant learning how to walk at the daycare using a walker for a while, then learning how to walk without it.

Physical, children 3-5: doing craft at the daycare (colouring a sheet of paper then cutting it out) then gluing the pieces in a specific way.

Cognitive, infants/toddlers: putting speakers behind an item and putting a song on, then getting the toddler to find the speaker (sound localization).

Cognitive, 3-5 years: mixing 2 different paint colours to get a new colour during craft time.

The difference between infant and preschoolers is, preschoolers can walk and talk. Speak and play around.

Infants are mostly holding or being on a baby swing. Infants are mostly crying for what they need and want.

Preschoolers can help us when they need help or need anything they want to do. Infants are mostly on their tummy or back.

Preschoolers can run and walk, or jump. Preschoolers can eat all day along.

Infants are mostly likely to have bottle throughout the day.

Language development:

Toddlers are able to communicate more clearly than infants, they can speak longer sentences, ask questions, tell stories and understand directions better.

Infants communicate by crying, sounds and gestures (if they learned how to use gestures by then)

Social Development:

Toddlers learn how to cooperate, share and play with others in groups. They are more independent and can express/understand their feelings by using words.

Infants depend so much on caregivers for comfort and emotional regulation, they are unable to understand their feelings and use crying to communicate with the caregiver.

In physical development, children ages 3-5 are more independent and coordinated than infants and toddlers. Preschool children can run, jump, climb, draw shapes and use scissors while infants and toddlers are still learning basic skills like crawling, walking and holding objects.

In language development, children ages 3-5 can speak in longer sentences, ask questions, tell stories and communicate their feelings more clearly. Infants and toddlers mostly communicate through crying, gestures, simple words or short phrases as they are still developing their vocabulary.
